George Smelser was born c1845 in Illinois. We believe his parents are Jacob and Polly Smelser. He married Adaline/Angeline Hatfield 22 Feb 1864. Adaline was born 1839 in Hancock Co, Indiana and died 9 Aug 1916 in Knox Co, Ilinois, Alms House, buried in Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, Illinios.
- George and Adaline had two children:
A Charles Andrew Smelser born 3 Mar 1872 in Knox Co, Ilinois, died 15 June 1969 at Cottage Hospital, Knox county, Illinois. He was 97 years old. He is buried in Altona Cemetery, Knox Co, Illinois. Charles married three times:
- 1st mg: Grace Inez Spencer-- 22 Apr 1896 in Galesburg, Illinois. Grace was born 11 May 1880 in Dexter, Iowa. They had one child: Donald Way Smelser.
- 2nd mg: Mattie E. Register Scotten-- 17 April 1912
- 3rd mg: Anna P. Walgren --9 Sept 1932; Anna was Charles' surviving spouse.
- Charles Andrew was also the father of sons:
1.. Emerson of Renton, Washington
2. Glenn of Utica, NY
- 3. Marvin of Lincoln, Illinois
Charles was the father of daughter: Ruth "of the home" according to Charles' obituary.
Charles Andrew abandoned his first wife, Grace and their son Donald Way and no mention of them was made in his obituary. I wonder if he ever told his ensuing families about his first wife and child?
B Rosa Luela Smelser was the second child of George Smelser and Adaline Hatfield. She was born 1873 in Illinois and died after 1916, place unknown. She married Charles A. Jacobs 12 Feb 1891.
